REPORT TO CACSSA AGM 2003

THE SKITTLES CLUB

This was a difficult year for the Club as we had just 13 teams entered for the Winter League, compared with 15 the previous year. This made a second division impractical, so we ran a single league with each team playing 24 games. All the games were completed. The Muffin Men comfortably won the title, achieving an outstanding team average of over 502 pins per game. Odds and Ends finished as valiant runners-up.

The 2002 Summer League was contested by 10 teams of eight, each playing eight hands per game, a format preferred in the Summer when raising teams of 12 can be difficult. The league was won by the Hustlers, who defeated the Dirty Dozen by a single pin in a thrilling Finals' Night decider.

Player of the Year 2003 was contested by 49 players. Bill Leach of A-Bombs won the title, and became the first player to win it twice, having previously triumphed in 1998. Ken Millard of Eyecatchers was runner-up.

Winter League Finals' Night is scheduled for Thursday 5 June, when the President's Shield and Wooden Spoon competitions will be decided. As usual, we will present prizes and offer complementary drinks and buffet supper.  Last year Odds and Ends beat the Rugby Club in the President's Shield Final, and SAS took the Wooden Spoon.

We have had engraving on our permanent trophies brought up to date, but two trophies are missing and we have extended the life of older trophies to compensate. Getting permanent trophies returned in time for engraving and the next presentation is a perennial headache, so we will devise measures to improve management of the silverware.

Our finances are healthier following a review and recalculation of alley hire charges. It will not be necessary to raise match fees to cover an increase in stickers' charges required to maintain consistency with the Cheltenham Skittles League. We will be addressing the issue of continued donations to charity at our AGM on 2 July 2003.
