REPORT TO CACSSA AGM 6 June 2012
THE SKITTLES CLUB
MEMBERSHIP
Numbers of players were slightly down on the previous year 302 (327): 244 (260) in the Winter season and 128 (132) in the Summer season.
SUMMER LEAGUE 2011
Eight teams (as last year) competed and although Over the Odds were the League Winners they lost out toA-Bombs in the Championship game. Awards for Highest Scores were presented by Polly Willmott (GCSLA) to Matt Clempson ( 71), Fi Baxter and Becky Lewis (both 63) and Over the Odds (513).
AGM
Our A.G.M. was held on 2 May 2012. Major points to report are:
* No nominations have been received for the vacancy of Chairman;
* The generous offer to subsidise Linking of current Family Members has been promulgated;
* Match fees will increase to £18 a team at next Winter season.
‘SPECIAL’ COMPETITIONS
CHAIRMAN’s (John Christie) CUP – Front-pin Rules: MUFFIN MEN (League Champions) beatA-Bombs (President’s Shield Winners).
FRONT-PIN CHAMPION (Tony Clay Memorial Shield): Andy Todd
MIXED-PAIRS WINNERS: Angie and John Atherton
PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR: Tim Masling
REGIONAL COMPETITION: One team from CACSSA competed in the Regional Finals at Bristol and came second on pin difference, despite beating the eventual winners.
WINTER COMPETITIONS (League and ‘Shield’)
Ten teams competed, for the fifth year in succession. Although we lost Pensioners, who had played every year since 1986-87, we gained a new team, Yager Bombers, who, although only drawing one game all season, have delighted us with their enthusiasm. MUFFIN MEN have again ‘done the double’ of League and President’s Shield. S.O.S. won the Wooden Spoon in a three-team contest.
Finals Night on 2 May 2012 celebrated over 50 years of C.S. Skittles with presentations made by some former members, some Players in the 1962-62 season who are still active in the Club, and the youngest member of our newest team.
Our grateful thanks go to Hugh & his Staff for their understanding concerning postponed games, to Phil Lewis (CACSSA Steward and Skittles Club member) for his organising the Stickers, and to Jamie Wright for his indefatigable efforts in preparing the alleys.Reg.
