REPORT TO CACSSA AGM 9 June 2014
THE SKITTLES CLUB
The downward number of players continues. There were 221 players this year, down from 253 in the previous year. 181 (209) played in the Winter season and 106 (125) in the Summer season. 56 played in both.
SUMMER LEAGUE 2013
Seven teams (one fewer than previous year) competed and A-BOMBS were the League Winners and beat Over the Odds in the Championship game. Awards for Highest Scores went to Mark Trevenna and Phil Coates (both 71), Barbara Kelly (68) and A-Bombs (536).
Our A.G.M. was held on 30 April 2013. Major points to report are:
- No nominations were received for the vacancy of Chairman nor for Secretary;
- Match fees will decrease to £12 a team at next Winter season because of a reduction in the alley hire fee and the generous rebate for each playing CSSC member.
CHAIRMAN’s (John Christie) CUP – Front-pin Rules: A BOMBS (runners-up in the 2012-13 Winter League) beat Odds and Ends (runners-up in the President’s Shield 2013).
FRONT-PIN CHAMPION (Tony Clay Memorial Shield): Cain Thomas
MIXED PAIRS: Bridget and Stewart Wilsdon
PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR: Scott Castle
WINTER COMPETITIONS 2013-2014 (League and ‘Shield’)
Nine teams entered (same as the previous season) but one team withdrew after playing one match. The league was successfully completed although there were 9 rearranged games. All teams won at least 1 of their 14 games. A-BOMBS won all their games and so are the League Champions. Yager Bombers won the Wooden Spoon. Highest Scores were achieved by Simon Smith (57) and Jo Chivers (55). Gerry Chivers had the Gents’ Highest Average (44.86), Jo Chivers for the Ladies (42.92) and Joe Clempson (42.23) for the young players.
Finals Night on 17 April 2013 saw the NEWCOMERS win the President’s Shield, defeating Hangovers.
Our A.G.M. was held on 7 May 2014. Major points to report are:
* No nomination was received for the vacancy of Chairman;
* The format of our league games will change to teams of 9 players in 3 legs each having 8 hands.
Our grateful thanks go to Hugh & his staff for their understanding concerning postponed games and setting up the alleys, and to Phil Lewis (CACSSA Steward and Skittles Club member) for his organising the Stickers.
